SumsureIQ Quarterly TOP 10 FMCG BRAND/CATEGORY PERFORMANCE TRACKING INDEX – 15th Edition

SumSureIQ, the IQ behind the data, equals FMCG market research across African countries. This means that SumSureIQ has the most complete view of the FMCG market and consumer behaviour in Ghana.

Consumers in Ghana spent between GHS 208 billion (US$ 17.3 billion) and GHS 252 billion (US$ 21.0 billion) on Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) from January to September 2026. These figures represent increases of about 19.0% in GHS terms and 28.9% in USD terms respectively, compared to the same period in 2025.

Of this amount:

  • Food accounted for 61% (an increase of 2 percentage points compared to the same period in 2025).
  • Non-Alcoholic Beverages accounted for 15% (an increase of 1 percentage point compared to 2025).
  • Alcoholic Beverages accounted for 14% (a drop of 1 percentage point compared to the same period in 2025).
  • Non-Food accounted for 10% (a drop of 2 percentage points compared to 2025).

These figures suggest that spending on food products as a proportion of total FMCG spending has increased. This may further indicate that cost of living pressures remain sticky, as consumers are increasingly spending more on food items even though the rate of inflation has dropped significantly. Consequently, the food sector represents the main driver of growth in the FMCG market in Ghana.

The data also show that about 80 manufacturers and suppliers accounted for more than 75% of all FMCG consumer value sales in Ghana from January to September 2026, compared to about 55 in the same period in 2025. This represents an increase of about 45%, suggesting a very competitive and growing market with several new entrants into the FMCG sector amid a recovering economic landscape in Ghana.

In general, SumSureIQ data suggests that the Ghanaian economic landscape has improved and become more competitive, pointing toward economic recovery and relative stability between January and September 2026. However, some caution remains warranted due to the ongoing US/Israel and Iran conflict, which could create economic impacts down the line.
